The last time I went camping was nearly ten years ago. Isn't that sad? That was a long time ago.
Well, we've finally made it to the point where we're not paranoid about the kids anymore and are willing to take a baby camping. We made a reservation at Little Talbot Island and bought a tent and we're going camping. Granted it's sort of just practice. We're going for one night so we can reintroduce ourselves to the practice. I am really looking forward to it.
We set the tent up in the space between the apartments.

We LOVE camping, and we've done it w/ all 5 kids and a port-a-crib, and still had a blast!!
Jerry's idea of camping is in a cabin or not so nice hotel! I also have fond memories of camping - I bet you'll have fun! Did you get any strange looks setting the tent up between the apartments?
Wow, you took the port-a-crib, eh? I thought my mom was insane when she suggested we bring the pack-n-play and then Del suggested the same thing with that lilt to his voice that said, "Duh, Jo." Oh...well, sheesh I've never been camping with babies before! So, anyway, how'd it go? Did you put the crib on anything inside the tent?
We can't wait to go. The kids are asking to sleep on the floor in our room so they can practice and almost every day asking to set up the tent and making tents in their room and constantly talking about smores. It's going to be fun! The campground is 1/2 a mile from the beach, too!! Woohoo!
I'm so sorry Johanna. Although, cabins are nice, too. We got lots of strange looks. People looking at us like we're we sort of nuts, but hey, it was fun. I made two bags of popcorn and brought it outside, too. They love that!
We just set up the crib right on the tent floor, and so of course it was more "cozy" than without it, but at the time baby was only 9 months, so it was necessary. He loved it, and the sleeping actually went better than we anticipated w/ excited, excitable children. Being near the beach would be a nice bonus! Maybe we can camp closer to the ocean one of these days.
Cool! Lily is 10 months so that's encouraging. Now I do worry about the bathroom issue. Rachel (2.5) peed on the floor in our bedroom when they were practicing and there was a toilet 5 feet from her bottom. For some reason she didn't get up to go. Weird. She gets up from her room nearly every night and treks across the apartment to come sleep with us, but she can't find the bathroom that right there? Yeah, I'm worried about the pee. This is why were just doing one night for starters. It'll probably be too hot to do much camping after that but in the early fall we'll go again...unless Del is in Iraq. :(
