Ideas Anyone?

Has anyone ever experimented with chewing gum and pregnancy sickness (because we all know "morning sickness" is a really bad misnomer)? I find that as long as I have some sort of food stuck in my pie hole my nausea goes away. But if I'm not chewing on something I start to want to vomit. I wonder if gum would be a good stand in for the many calories I'm doomed to consume if I can't find a less high-calorie way to stop this nausea.

For me it was dum-dum suckers... a real life-saver. No other suckers would do, they were either too big or too small. I really am not much of a gum person, but I think it could help!

I did use gum some, but it wasn't as effective. I had to get bubble gum flavor, too. No mint. That was too strong! It's worth a try!

I used candied ginger and a lifesavers type candy from the health food store with Peapod, and both really seemed to help.

Did I buy a big bad of dum-dums and send them to you when you were pregnant with Jack?

I can see buying bubble gum flavor instead of mint. Mint toothpaste makes me vomit so I'm sure mint gum would be a no-go.

Did you guys every try those Preggie Pops? I hear they have ginger in them. Maybe I should try some ginger tea. Oh and make sure you buy some raspberry leaf tea so that your uterus will be properly prepared.

It might work. Peppermints did the trick for me, and dum-dums like Tina said.

I couldn't do gum because I have TMJ, but I bet it would do the trick. Try to find one without aspartame (bad for baby and you!).

You're right about the aspartame. That rules out just about every low-calorie gum on the planet.

I forgot that I have some ginger chews and ginger tea that I was planning to mail you! I'll get it in the mail tomorrow. That way you can see if it works for you without spending any $$ on it. For me, it made me more sick because I don't care for the taste of ginger to begin with.

Did you know that just about every gum on the (mainstream) market has aspartame in it? Big Red is one of the few exceptions.

I am not fond of sugar subs, but I have to admit, I am an avid gum chewer. I nearly always have some in my mouth. And I bet that is one reason why I never had much sickness during pregnancy, now that I think on it.

I even have TMJ, myself, but I can't help chewing my minty yummies. Could that possibly mean I am addicted to gum? :-p
