And the Verdict Is...

Accommodative Esotropia (AE).

A fancy word for crossed eyes. I ended up not going to the appointment with Rachel, Del went instead. Getting information from him is like pulling teeth. It takes several days to get all the facts out of him. ROTFLOL. Del's quirks...he's so funny.

So what I know is that she needs glasses. Vision in her left eye is +4.00. Vision in her right eye is +5.50. Quite a difference, so her brain is ignoring the signals it's getting from the right eye. I knew this (from reading about Savannah...thank you Meagan) and from my own research. Del was shocked to learn that she will go blind in that eye if we don't take care of it.

Even though it's hard to get info from him, I'm glad he went because I don't think he realized the severity of the situation. He was a little skeptical when I was talking to him about what I read but to hear the doctor say that she will go blind if we don't take care of it...he came home a changed daddy.

Rachel had her eyes dilated. She likes her cool sunglasses. She told me that the drops hurt and she cried. Ahhhh...poor girl.

We went to get her some glasses. The folks at Pearle Vision were sssooooooo nice. I wish I had taken Ella there. We tried her in a few frames and finally settled on these. It's not a very good picture. I'll get a better one when the actual glasses with lenses come in.

Isn't she so cute. I think they had better frames at Value Vision, but the doctor recommended Pearle Vision and the woman who helped us promised to get them back quickly so that we could get Rachel in them ASAP. She said, "Oooh, did you see Dr. C? I love her!! If I had kids I'd definitely take them to see Dr. C." So that was comforting.

I am glad that it's something so fixable. Dr. C said that it's a textbook case of AE. If the glasses don't fix the crossed eye, then they'll do surgery on the eye muscle, but she thinks the glasses will do it.
Some extra pics of Lily and Anna in some sunglasses.

That's great that she might not need surgery. I hope everything works out with just the glasses.

The girls all look so cute in glasses! Lily's hair has gotten long! and her hair is so *blond*! And I love how Lily's bottom lip is sticking out :)

Yes, what's with the blonde hair?? It's downright funny!!

How did your kids get such bad eyesight? That is one serious prescription! I hope it really helps her.

I remember thinking Lily had the fairest coloring of all your girls. Her hair is blonder than my boy's hair!

And you're right. Rachel looks great in glasses!

I am pretty sure that was the surgery my dh had as a child...

He still has awful eyesight.

Kela got his eyesight, unfortunately. So far the others seem to have mine, which is much better, since I only have to wear glasses if I feel like it. haha

She looks SO CUTE in her new glasses :) I love the other girlies in the shades too :)

(btw, my kids laugh at me when I call them shades. I've become uncool! haha)

Oh...shades is uncool? Uh oh...darn I thought I was with it.

We're all wondering what is with the eyesight because I know of no family members that have such awful eyesight. My mom says that her mom had really bad (farsighted) eyesight but I don't if she had it as a kid. No one on Del's side has glasses at all. Everyone on my side is nearsighted or just needs glasses because they're becoming old and decrepit. HA! :)

lol. Well that is awesome that she just needed glasses and no patching. and I am glad Del went to the appointment and came home a changed man. The eyesight and kids is nothing to take lightly. Savannah has taught me that one.

She was complaining about headaches yesterday and the night before last. So I called the eye doc, and tomorrow is an eye pressure check. They are afraid that the headaches might be caused by high pressure and that there is need to modify the drops. So here we go again to wolfsons...... at least it isn't surgery.....

The girls are all cute with glasses. and blond hair??? It is downright funny.... maybe its HER hair going white from all the trouble she likes to get into!!!!

I know, third comment right???

I would ask the doc anyways about the patching if you want to. With the glasses on, you might be able to patch the good eye some and better the perscription some of the worse eye, but I don't know if it is worth it. It may just be worth it to use glasses from here on out and not try and strengthen the eye muscles. I am no doc. The other thing I have heard is to do lots of games with them that uses objects coming in close and then moving out.... It stregthens the muscles that help focus....

Very cute glasses! I've had glasses and/or contacts since I was in 4th grade, and it's always fun to get new frames.
